Ha being a native Missourian, I'd love to see that review. I'm wondering if that's from when he played in the St. Louis area, or from his days with the Dead. It's been over 8 years since he last played here, I have a nice board tape of that I made from a patch off of his gear, he played solo to open for a local GD tribute, then played with them, really fun show. I think it's on the archive. Unfortunately only like a dozen of us showed up early to see him play, but he gave us a good time. He was very friendly and talkative. I later met him a while back when he first played a Missouri music festival (which I mention below), I used to do some work for the band and the place and chatted him up a bit backstage one night, but he didn't seem nearly as friendly. I was wondering if he just didn't feel like being bothered, or if he didn't care for the scene. He's since been back, so I'm guessing it was the former. Either way, I didn't hold it against him. Gans is cool.

The time before that when he played here was the same night Phil was in town, I think it was July of 2000, if you had a Phil ticket stub you got in free if you came over after the show, but after a night full of Dylan and Phil, I was spent. For some reason he's just had bad timing when he played here, which is a shame, I'd love to see him back.

He has played local tributefest "Schwagstock" a couple of times (held on some 400 acres of private land located in VERY rural Southern Missouri, the law gets most of it's budget from arrests made surrounding the events), a friend of mine just recently uploaded his recording of Gans' two sets that he did there about 2 weeks ago. That place is notorious for roadblocks and profiling, I've known way too many people get caught up going down and/or coming back from there. Though I'm guessing Gans' police incident probably stemmed from his days with the Dead.

At any rate, my answer is "no." I don't go around advertising my Deadheadness like I did when I was younger. Which is odd, as now I also never have anything to worry about when I drive, unlike when I was younger...
